Noeline Hofmann - Purple Gas

Purple gas is dyed fuel sold at a lower tax rate to farmers and ranchers for agricultural use where I’m from in Alberta, Canada (similar to off-road fuel in the US.) You need a special licence plate to burn it on public roads.

The title of this project is a metaphor. In my mind, purple gas, as a commodity, symbolises resilience and rural attitude and where I’m from. The songs on this project have been the petrol in my tank thus far, fueling every step taken while running after all of my north stars and following said constellation’s lead off the beaten trail. They will continue to be on the next stretch of ground that will unravel with their release.

These songs capture a notably raw and formative period of time in my life, age 18 to 20. The era was equally gorgeous as it was heart wrenching. I lived and wrote most of these pieces at 19; before I’d ever been on tour, before so much of the life as I know it now came about. I’ll never quite be the same girl who wrote those songs again. The project is a time capsule.

I’m the editor-in-chief. The guy who looks after this whole damn place. And the music you see here is the kinda sounds that I’m into. They’re my questions, but not my answers.
