About me

I’m Max. Hello.

The Americana Music Association UK logo

I’m passionate about music. Particularly most flavours of country, all flavours of Americana, and a bit of straight-up pop. Oh, and rock has its place too.

I’ve been writing about music for about seven years for The Digital Fix, as music editor for the last few years, and decided it was time to set up my own little part of the world wide web to talk country music and Americana. I also write for God Is In The TV Zine about other genres.

I’ve covered many many gigs and festivals, including Country To Country, The Long Road, Black Deer Festival, AmericanaFest UK, Green Man, Truck Festival and Latitude.

The best thing I get to do is interview people and I’ve been lucky enough to meet and talk to loads of amazing artists. From talking to Sturgill Simpson in his early days (he particularly enjoyed talking about his previous “normal” job on an oil rig), to Maren Morris when ‘My Church’ was just hitting big, Margo Price (a more serious chat about online threats), Kip Moore telling me he trashed the first version of his second record, Jason Aldean lighting up when talking about how to buy a cowboy hat, to chatting with Jaime Wyatt and Beth Bombara in The Louisiana in Bristol, having a very serious conversation with John Fullbright in a store cupboard, trekking to the innards of the O2 for a quick chat with a glammed up and about to go on stage Carly Pearce, waiting for Raelynn while she escaped the toilets, not really being able to hear Valerie June as her support act was playing the other side of the curtain, and being threatened with being undressed (in a jovial way) by Midland a minute or so before they went on stage.

I’ve loved them all. Apart from maybe a famous singer’s daughter who was having an off day (I assume).

If you want me to write about you or anything you’re up to, or have a suggestion of someone or something I should cover drop your details in the form and I’ll get back to you.
