My 2022: Isaac Hoskins
Please introduce yourself?
Hello, my name is Isaac Hoskins. I’m a singer and a songwriter from Texas.
What’s the best gig you’ve seen in 2022?
My favorite show of the year was Steve Earle and The Dukes live at Billy Bob’s. A friend got me some really good tickets so I took Jesse Thompson (our bass player and one of my closest friends). My wife took me to see Lyle Lovett twice last year and man, his shows are just magical, he’s such a pro. Honorable mention would probably be Alice Cooper and The Misfits in Dallas on Halloween weekend. That was pretty great!
What’s the best gig you’ve played in 2022?
My band and I played the premier pre-party for Yellowstone this year. That was pretty awesome. We also got to headline the first night of a small venue music festival called Holiday Hangout. It’s an annual thing and the line-up is always awesome; we were so excited to headline The White Water Tavern in Little Rock, Arkansas. The night was epic…
Where’s the best place you’ve visited?
Back in July I got to go to Missoula, Montana. Hands down my favorite trip of the year.
Best food you’ve eaten in 2022?
The best food I had all year was Thanksgiving Dinner at my Mom’s place, she always does it up right and the company is always lively.
What’s the best thing that’s happened in music generally in 2022?
My best answer would have to be “live music,” I don’t think any of us really knew how much we would miss live music, as performers as well as fans. I’m just glad I get to play again.
What’s the best thing that happened to you in music in 2022?
Well, I released a record that I’m really proud of and two of the songs from it were featured on a TV show called Yellowstone. That was a pretty huge deal for me.
What’s your favorite song of 2022?
‘Everything She Ain’t’ by Hailey Whitters. After all the doom and gloom of the past two years it was nice to have a well-written, clever song to bob my head to. I think Hailey is just incredible.
What are your top three albums of 2022?
Ramblin’ Soul - Melissa Carper
What are you most proud of in 2022?
I’m most proud of getting my life back. Depression and alcoholism nearly killed me in 2021 and I’m glad to have found a reason to care again.
