Albums of the year 2022: 20-11

Into the top 20 now and the same stands as previously… I’m continuously reminded why I don’t order things and just have my favourite records listed in a random order usually. The numbers are kinda arbitrary at this point. Having said that some of my longtime favourite artists appear here with Sunny Sweeney’s return after too long away (five years!), Sarah Shook and the Disarmers returning after slightly less time away (four years is still too long), and Miko Marks quickfire turnaround (18 months-ish). I’ve also loved records from relative newcomers Emily Nenni and Stacy Antonel so would urge you to check them out. Plus the semi-prolific Courtney Marie Andrews keeps up her two-year cycle and the super-prolific Charley Crockett kept up his two-records-a-year cycle. Usual reminder, these are albums I’ve enjoyed the most, not the best per see. Who’s to say what best is.

20. Sunny Sweeney - Married Alone

19. Stacy Antonel - Always The Outsider?

18. Mariel Buckley - Everywhere I Used To Be

17. Courtney Marie Andrews - Loose Future

16. Miko Marks - Feel Like Going Home

15. Bonny Light Horseman - Rolling Golden Holy

14. Sarah Shook and the Disarmers - Nightroamer

13. Emily Nenni - On The Ranch

12. Jonah Tolchin - Lava Lamp

11. Charley Crockett - The Man From Waco

Here are some morsels to snack on from each of the records above. Or you can obviously stream the full album from your favourite service - which should be Tidal. If you want to try it out here’s an offer for 2 months of Tidal for £2. (I don’t make any commission from this, they just pay artists the most %.)

Max Mazonowicz

I’m the editor-in-chief. The guy who looks after this whole damn place. And the music you see here is the kinda sounds that I’m into. They’re my questions, but not my answers.
