Chatting around the table with Emma Moore
Hey Emma, how the heck are you?
Hey Max! I'm great thank you. How're you doing?
I am pretty good thanks for asking. So tell me, where are you right now? And what are you up to today?
I'm at my brand new day job! I've joined the influx of artists hitting up a 9-5 and chasing music dreams 5-9 (and lunch hours too, which I'm currently on).
Introduce yourself to our lovely campers.
Hello campers! If you're wondering who this random redhead across your screens is, I'm Emma. I'm a British country artist based in the North West with a big love for songs that make you cry, feisty lyrics and Jack Daniels!
And tell me one thing about you that I couldn’t possibly know.
Ooh, what a fun question. Here's one, the first song I ever learnt on guitar was the theme from 'Friends' - and I don't even watch the show!
Tell me a bit about you. Where are you from? What do you enjoy in life?
My hometown is Blackpool, a five-minute drive away from the beach and ten from the motorway - it's a pretty perfect location. I love listening to albums on repeat, really diving into them, reading books outside with coffee, walking my gorgeous pup and writing songs.
What were your first steps into making music?
I can't ever remember a time I didn't want to work in music, even if I didn't quite know where or how. I think the most pivotal moments were meeting my voice teacher at 21, picking my guitar back up again at 24, and my first introduction to the British Country music scene at 25.
How different is it making country music as a UK based artist?
I imagine it's pretty different to the US, especially when it comes to releasing it. I feel like we're constantly fighting stereotypes.
Your new EP, the table, just came out, what can you tell me about it?
I'm honestly still learning about these songs now, and mostly from listening to other people talk about them - it's been fascinating. I think the biggest connection in these songs so far is that they're about truly embracing what you want and who you are and being unapologetic about it.
If people only had three minutes, what song would you want them to listen to?
Oh wow, I could probably give you a different answer to this every day, depending on my mood haha! But in this moment I'm gonna go with 'Late To The Table'. I think it's one of the few songs I have that could show my strength and softness in just one track.
Tell me about ‘Blinded’, it’s one of my favourites.
Thank you! I love 'Blinded' too. It's so satisfying to play as it feels like I get to live out so many things I wish I had said to specific people, and I feel like you could let out so much frustration with this one. We've all watched people around us be completely blinded by love, or a lover, and wanna shake some sense into them, so this one is for all of us.
Talk to me about The Hangar.
The Hangar is very special to me - it's the collective name for all the people in my mailing list and private Facebook group. They're the most invested people in my music, so I let them hear the entire EP back in February in a special way and they're the ones I get excited with before anything gets announced. They're a great bunch of people.
Who (or what) inspires you right now?
I'm really inspired by people who are unafraid to try something new, and who wear their hearts on their sleeves. That's what I try to do, and seeing it more and more always makes me want to dig deeper, work harder and give more.
If you could recommend one artist to hear this week, who would it be?
I'm currently obsessed with Hannah Dasher - her song 'The Tree' is one of my on-repeat favourites, plus she seems like an absolute blast to hang out with.
How confident are you feeling about live shows this year? And where can we (fingers crossed) catch you live?
I'm feeling great about it, although terrified I'm just going to cry with happiness all through my first one back. I'll be in Stoke with Kira Mac on the 18th June for a solo show, and with my band at Buckle and Boots in July and in Blackpool in November. There are more and more conversations happening about live shows every day, so I can't wait to be back to a full diary.
What’s the question I should have asked you today but haven’t?
We've covered so much! Maybe where you can join The Hangar? On my website!
I notice your Twitter bio says you’re “probably over-caffeinated” so you’ll like my final question... how do you take your coffee?
I do indeed! I usually just have it black, but I'll treat myself to a Caramel Macchiato every now and then.
