Hiss Golden Messenger are the kings of the laid-back country-folk protest song that isn’t really a protest song. Bandleader MC Taylor has a way with words that make a specific point broadly applicable to a wider listener, whilst also lulling into the relaxed beat of their songs. It’s quality and quantity with Hiss as the regularity of their output is only matched by the quality. Quietly Blowing It is the peak of their output so far.
