Natalie Hemby - Pins And Needles

It’s no secret that Puxico is one of my favourite albums of the last few years, so Pins And Needles had a lot to live up to. It turns out that Natalie Hemby has taken a different route second time round. Out are the restrained instrumentation and personal lyrics, in are a bigger sound and broader themes. That isn’t to say it’s worse, quite the opposite, and obviously it wouldn’t be album of the week if it weren’t great.

Still very present is Natalie’s way with a cracking lyric, her deft touch and clever use of words is totally present, and a variety of sound ranging from 80s pop to 90s country and onwards makes it a variable smorgasbord of music.

Pins and Needles is the record I never got the chance to make and I always wanted to. It’s the late 90’s sound, which is the sound of my young adult life.

I’m the editor-in-chief. The guy who looks after this whole damn place. And the music you see here is the kinda sounds that I’m into. They’re my questions, but not my answers.
